The skin functions in so many different ways 

  1. regulation of body temperature - it regulates body temperature via sweat and air. 
  2. protection of the body - the skin protects the body against harmful effects from temperature, microoganisms and chemicals
  3. mechanica support - the skin offers mechanical support to the body and also protects it against impact and certain pressures
  4. the skin excretes toxic substances from the body via sweating 
  5. the skin prevents loss essesntial body fluids 
  6. the skin acts as a organ for sensation- the network of nerve cells allow for the detection of changes in environment
