Today's hottest content drives engagement and watch time. Google uses a proprietary algorithm to rank the millions of channels on YouTube based on popularity and the passion of their fans. We call it the Preference Score. Google Preferred includes among the top five percent channels on YouTube. To measure popularity and passion, the Preference Score looks at several metrics, including:
- Popularity: User watchtime
- Passion: How engaged the audience is (e.g., shares, likes, and other fanships)
It’s updated frequently. So when the next star or breakthrough talent arrives, our Preference Score will surface eligible channels for inclusion in Google Preferred.
