A force of 10 N is applied to an object which accelerates it at 2 m/s2 to the right.  If there is 4 N of friction to the left, determine the mass of the object. 

Include a free-body diagram.

F= ma

m= F/a

= F1+ F2/a

= (10)+(-4)/ 2

= 3 kg

Assume left = -  and right = +

Fnet = ma

F + (-Fr) = ma

10 - 4 = m(2)

6 = 2m

m = 6/2

    = 3kg
