Given $T_{n} = 3^{n+1}$ . Which term is the first to exceed 20 000?

20 000= 3^(n+1)

log20 000= (n+1)log3

           n= log20 000/log3 -1

             = 8.01...

since 20 000 is ideally at position 8.01.., it means term 8 is slightly less than 20 000, hence term 9 will be the first, since n should be whole number.
