“On Instagram my handle is @officialkrissie_ and in my other life I am a budding polymath who is on a mission to use my talents to break barriers and change the world”, says Kristen Nicole Landsberg, a 22-year old multi-talented and award-winning marketer, mathematician, poet, actress, olympian …the list goes on.
It is not every day that one meets a “Renaissance Woman” who at a very young age has transcended the norm. Tradition has told us that women are fragile and cannot thrive in STEM subjects thus they should be confined to the kitchen and make babies. Kristen is the epitome of a counter-example as she walks her journey in success towards more success.
Kristen, a mixed race young lady with a very complex genealogy that has a hint of Latin-Brazilian, European-Italian, South African Colored and Asian-Thai. She is a walking symbol of globalisation.
As a child she was raised to be an achiever in all endeavours including sport and academics and this has propelled her to dizzy heights like representing South Africa at Youth Olympics for swimming and also achieving a “Cum Laude” for her Master’s degree in Mathematics at the University of Johannesburg.
Kristen’s drive to be the best at all she does has seen her take on enormous responsibilities simultaneously. In 2013, the same year she matriculated at St. Mary’s Girls School, she managed to complete a graphic design certificate at the University of Cape Town (UCT). This was a remarkable achievement for a high schooler.
Not done, the following year, she immediately enrolled and completed a certificate from Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. In the same year, she commenced her studies towards a BCom Marketing and Strategic Corporate Communications at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
Who says if one is a university student one cannot spread their wings and explore? Kristen did just that whilst at UJ she:
- started a presenting and prompt reading course offered by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
- interned at Methys in 2015
- interned at Discovery in 2016
- interned at DNA in 2016
- interned at Coca Cola Marketing in 2017
- interned at Ogilvy in 2017
- interned at Gorilla in 2017
In 2018 whilst doing her Honours in Statistics at UJ she also made sure that she kept up with the developments in the marketing industry so she:
As if the studying was not enough, Kristen embarked on a Masters in Mathematics which she has completed with distinction and will be graduating in 2019.
Her achievements are too many to mention in one post. Kristen’s message to the youth out there is that age is not a limiting factor if one is determined to be the best they can be. She further reiterates the fact that there is more than one path to success and it is worthwhile for the youth to explore and find their sweet spot.
Kristen is a living example of human potential at its fullest. Since I could not do justice to her achievements, please find her profile below.
