Novo Nordisk in conjunction with The City of Johahannesburg has been at the fore-front of spreading  knowledge around diabetes.

The Education Support Forum spoke to Leko Nkabinde, Communications and Public Affairs Manager about the walk for diabetes that was held today at Maponya mall in Soweto.

According to statistics provided by StatsSA, diabetes is now the second high cause of death in South Africa.  A more alarming statistic is the fact that it is the highest cause of death for South African women.

The majority of diabetes patients suffer  from Type 2 diabetes which is a disease caused by a sedentary lifestyle lacking in exercise and goodeating habits.

There are many cultural myths that still have to be busted in order to get more people to get tested for diabetes”, said Leko Nkabinde.

During the Soweto walk, Novo Nordisk encourage people to get tested and even set up testing centres at the mall.
